FAQS: Transportation
I received my initial assignment strip and the transportation column for my child's assignment stated “parent provide.” Why is this?
Initial assignments were made that allowed students moving to sixth or ninth grade to continue on their current school's feeder pattern and stay with their cohort group. In limited cases that assignment is to a school outside the range of school choices without transportation. These families may participate in the magnet or proximity choice selection rounds and apply to schools that will provide transportation for their address, or continue to the next school in the feeder pattern while providing their own transportation. Transportation patterns will be reviewed following choice selection to determine if additional services can be provided. Updated 1/13/12.
My child attends his/her current school as a transfer student, but now that school is actually on my choice list. How can I get transportation to that school?
Information about bus routes will be available prior to the opening of school. Contact your school during the summer for more information about bus schedules and stop locations.
If I participate in the choice process, will I know what kind of transportation will be available to me to each of my choice schools?
Yes. For students selecting a school during the choice selection process, transportation availability will be indicated for each school on their choice list.
If my younger child follows my older child into the same school, but that school is not on my choice list for my neighborhood, will the younger child still get the same transportation as the older child?
For students wishing to grandfather at a school which is not on their choice list, they will maintain their current level of transportation until they age out of that school. If a younger sibling follows an older child into a school which is not on the choice list for their node, then that same level of transportation for the younger child will be guaranteed until the older sibling ages out of the school.
What happens if I move during the school year? (i.e. Can I stay where I am? or Would I then choose from a new list of options?)
Students who move within the district during the school year may elect to stay at their school where they began the year, or they may select a school with an open seat from the choice list for the new area to which they have moved. If a student decides to stay at her/his "old" school, transportation may or may not be available in that case, depending on the location of the new home and the location of the school.
