FAQS: Siblings

I want to apply for my child to go to school with their sibling but I don’t see the school on my choice list.

Qualifying siblings -- those entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade who are applying for a school that an older sibling is already attending -- will see the older sibling along with their school in the parent account and will be able to apply to that school with sibling priority.

All other siblings -- those entering into grades 1-4, 7-8, and 10-12 who want to request the school of a sibling -- will need to manually add that sibling to the parent account.  This will make the sibling’s school appear as a choice and available for families to rank.

How are siblings in the same grade span treated in the selection process? If I have a rising kindergarten student can my older child get priority into that same school that my kindergartner is selected for?

At this time, sibling priority mainly applies to rising kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade students who ask for their older sibling’s school as their first choice. Siblings at other grades will have priority based on available seats. Sibling priority only applies to if you list the sibling’s school as the first choice.

The high school that has always been our high school is no longer an option for our node. Will my current 7th grader still be able to attend that high school if his current 10th grade brother is attending?

Yes. Younger siblings will be able to attend the school where their older sibling is enrolled, much as they do today.

If my younger child follows my older child into the same school, but that school is not on my choice list for my neighborhood, will the younger child still get the same transportation as the older child?

For students wishing to grandfather at a school which is not on their choice list, they will maintain their current level of transportation until they age out of that school. If a younger sibling follows an older child into a school which is not on the choice list for their node, then that same level of transportation for the younger child will be guaranteed until the older sibling ages out of the school.

How can I get a younger sibling into the same school as my older child if the school is not on my choice list for my node?

The schools of older siblings in the same grade range will automatically appear in your younger child's choice list during the selection process.

If a student is already attending a WCPSS school, what is the process to get their incoming sibling at the same school?

Students entering into grades K, 6, or 9 are guaranteed a spot at their older sibling's school if the family requests it as their first choice during the choice selection process.
