Can my student participate in sports in any school for which they are selected?
- Students attending a school for which they were selected during the magnet or proximity choice rounds may participate in sports at that school. A student who is later offered a seat at their first choice school from the wait list is also eligible to participate in sports at that school.
- A student attending a school based on an approved transfer request (ie-a school not on their proximity or magnet choice lists) may not be allowed to participate in high school athletics without an approved appeal for athletic participation (Board Policy 6203).
- Students attending an Early College or a Leadership Academy (grades 7-12) will have an identified "sports school" where they will be eligible to try out for athletic teams.
What are the names of the new elementary schools that have been listed as E20 and E25?
E20 has been named Abbotts Creek Elementary School and E25 has been named Richland Creek Elementary School.
Where can I see a list of performance for every school so that I will know which are high, middle or low performing?
Individual school performance is available at http://www.wcpss.net/school-directory/. You can also visit http://www.wcpss.net/test-scores/ for tables that compare school results.
How will you know the degree of diversity a school will offer on the front end of your decision making process?
Since the composition of students will depend to a large degree on how families choose, the degree of diversity will not be known until those choices are processed. Once students are seated for the upcoming school year, then information as to the composition of the schools will be known. Since the choice process will largely take place at the Kindergarten level, the degree of diversity in each school will not change appreciably in the first year, assuming most current WCPSS students remain in their current schools as the simulation study would suggest.
My child is not currently attending a WCPSS school. Where and when can I pre-register my child?
Pre-registration for students new to WCPSS begins November 28th. Pre-registration must occur before any new student can participate in the choice process, and can be completed at any school site that serves the child's grade level or at the WCPSS central office building in Cary. At that time, parents will be informed about how to participate in choice selection.
For current WCPSS students, which schools will they attend next year?
All current WCPSS students in grades K-4, 6-7, and 9-11 will be pre-assigned to their current school for the 2012-13 school year. For students currently in grade 5 or 8 who will be transitioning to a new grade span next year, they will be assigned to the school identified in the approved feeder pattern for their current elementary or middle school (see http://assignment.wcpss.net/downloads/approved-feeder-patterns_101811.pdf). Notifications for these pre-assignments will be sent home to all students in November 2011. All students, however, will still be able to participate in the choice selection process if they would like to change schools in 2012-13.
